Community gardens inspire, engage, and empower residents from various target groups and social backgrounds.
They contribute to a broader understanding of public spaces and have the potential to bring together people with diverse cultural and social experiences.

For this reason, Swinemünder Straße is set to be transformed into an Edible Street. Community gardens will be created at several locations, built by and for local residents. The active gardeners will primarily come from the Brunnenviertel neighborhood, reflecting its rich cultural and social diversity.

Potential garden sites include the existing Keimzelle project, the former pétanque court near Diesterweg Gymnasium, and Vinetaplatz. Various participatory activities, workshops, and gardening consultations will introduce interested newcomers to the topic.

Since 2022, a community garden has been flourishing on the median of Swinemünder Straße: the Keimzelle.
Due to construction work starting at the Olof-Palme-Zentrum in 2023, the raised beds located there need a new home.

The approved Action Fund is financing the relocation and refurbishment of the raised beds. Additionally, the community garden is engaging with the public through a booth at the neighborhood festival and several painting activities for children.

To make daily gardening tasks easier, the funding is also being used to purchase small materials, seeds, and other gardening supplies.
